Our buckwheat honey is a dark monofloral honey made by bees from the nectar of buckwheat flower. Buckwheat is culinarily used in place of wheat, but buckwheat isn't a type of grass, and is not related to wheat. It is related to sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb. Therefore, buckwheat is also free of gluten.
Buckwheat flowers have dark nectar, even though its petals are white, which produces its rich dark color of the honey. This dark color is also the sign of its high level of antioxidants present in the honey. We pride ourselves in the purity of our buckwheat honey by placing the beehives in the middle of large buckwheat fields, and thus producing much darker honey than you would typically see on the market.

Boosts Antioxidants
One study from the University of Illinois found buckwheat honey with tea increased antioxidant levels in the body. And a meta-study on honey showed that it has the highest levels of antioxidants among all types of honey.
Skin Care
Honey is well known to help protect and hydrate your skin. This is why we've formulated our own face mask with our buckwheat honey!
Soothes Your Throat
The research team found honey to be a more effective cough suppressant compared to over-the-counter medicine which was published in the journal, Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine. Honey did a better job reducing nighttime cough's severity, frequency, and bothersome nature from an upper respiratory infection.
Since over-the-counter medicine is not recommended for children under 6 years old, due to its lack of effectiveness and side effects, honey is the better solution when it comes to alleviating coughs for children.
This study used buckwheat honey, the sought-after remedy for cold symptoms.
For a child with a cold, the American Academy of Family Physicians recommends the following doses:- children ages 2 to 5: 2.5mL
- children ages 6 to 11: 5mL
- children ages 12 to 18: 10mL

Buckwheat honey
Absolutely wonderful….I have tried buckwheat honey before and didn’t like it, but this is really good - still mild tasting and if you love buckwheat there is a hint of buckwheat taste that comes out late on the palate so you know this is true buckwheat honey. All One Root honeys have been beyond my expectations. Shipping directly from One Root was prompt and meticulously protected in the package.
